Catholic Psalms set to Music for the Liturgy of the Hours
Setting to music the psalms of David, repsonsorial psalms and hymns for the Liturgy of the Hours is a huge effort. Erika Provinzano embraced this project to create original music for catholic psalms, canticles and hymns for the Divine Office Audio Liturgy of the Hours podcast with a great spirit of service.
The first psalm she has set to music was psalm 23, “The Lord is my Shepherd”. This first experience in composing the music and singing the Catholic psalms with original, modern psalm tunes has marked the beginning of the project “Sing to the Lord a new Song” (Psalm 149).
“My heart’s desire is that the prayer in the form of song may reach and be endorsed by people so-called ‘far from faith’. I desire for my music to be a vehicle for the real treasure that gives life to my songs, that is the love God has for each of us.” — Erika Provinzano
For her, this means to praise the Lord speaking the tongue of the world: a “new song” that will allow our spirit to rejoice in God our saviour not just inside churches on sundays, but also publicly along our ways. A “new song” as the “first fruits” of the harvest to the eye of the Lord, that will also become precious to the man to give all the praise and the glory to God.
Several of the psalms, hymns and canticles in our audio Liturgy of the Hours have been set to music, arranged, performed and recorded by Erika Provinzano exclusively for the Divine Office community. We think God brought Erika into our lives for His great work.
Erika dedicates her life to this calling: preaching the gospel together with her family has become a full-time job for her. To keep this evangelization project obedient and prompt to the Holy Spirit, it has not been tied to any production label. For this reason, we need support from people that loves the Lord, enjoy her music and believes in this project which Erika has embraced with her music and her life.
“Alleluia! Sing a new song to the Lord, his praise in the assembly of the faithful.” – Psalm 149
The new project that Erika Provinzano is working on for Divine Office.org is to set psalms to music. This project requires substantial effort and significant resources of time and materials. Let’s offer her our support with a small donation, for the service she is providing to our community: this will enable her to cover the expenses that she is facing to keep alive and operating this project.
