This is the Liturgy of the Hours for December 31. Your local date is .
Ever wanted to put today’s Liturgy of the Hours text on your website? Now you can! and as a big plus you also get to provide our award winning audio rendition of the universal prayer of the Catholic Church.
Divine Office Catholic Ministry announces today a new way to spread the Liturgy of the Hours to allow more and more people to join in prayer, always and everywhere.
Starting today, the same award winning Liturgy of the Hours audio and text produced by DivineOffice.org are available in a fully responsive “widget” you can embed in your own website!
To activate the widget on your website or blog all you need is a single line of HTML code (yes, no javascript or Flash required!)…
The code is a simple “iframe” and works like this:
This simple line invokes the “widget” version of today’s Liturgy of the Hours in a virtual “frame” on your website. The widget will adapt automagically to any width and height. You can specify your preferred size through a very simple CSS Style definition, like this:
With the style=”width: 300px; height: 450px;” code, we are simply telling the browser that our iframe is 300 pixels in width and 450 pixels in height. Here is how it looks like:
Would you like a different form factor? Try a square:
Here is how it looks like:
Do you have a very narrow sidebar running on the side of your site? Well, we got you covered: the widget can adapt to your sidebar too. Check this out:
As you can see, I have added a “float: right” attribute to the CSS style definition. This will cause the widget to be aligned on the right side of the elements following it.
If you are familiar with CSS, you can even assign it an id or a class and play with the widget to make it whatever size you need and place it anywhere in your layout. It will work with media queries to get resized as the viewport changes in responsive designed pages, it will accept percentage values in liquid layouts… the widget will just adapt.
The Divine Office widget is a one-page solution, and features all the main prayers for today’s Liturgy of the Hours. Every time your originating web page is loaded, it will automatically update its contents to the current date.
The prayers use a standard HTML5 Audio Player, that does not require Flash to run. It is fully supported on Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, as well as on iPhone and iPad, from which you can even enable the Airplay feature and stream the audio version of the Liturgy of the Hours to your bluetooth speakers or the Apple TV.
At the very bottom of the widget, apart form the necessary copyright notes, we are including links back to our main website, a link to the Divine Office Catholic Ministry Facebook page and links to our iPhone, iPad and Android Apps.
Let us know here in the comments if you will add the Liturgy Of the Hours by Divine Office on your website, and feel free to post a link to the page featuring it!
Please note we are providing this service “as is”, with no warranty expressed or implied. You are free to use it as you see fit. The contents of this widget still reside on our website, and are loaded in real-time: any change or improvement we do will automatically reflect on the embedding page, and we will gather usage statistics from the widget the same way we do with our DivineOffice.org main website.
We are very careful on what we do on our website and through our distribution channels, and we have never included sponsors or 3rd party banner ads in any, furthermore we have no plans to do so in the near future. However, please understand that we may decide to include additional links in the widget (especially to announce new products and services we create or to ask for donations to support our ministry) without announcing the changes in advance.
Also, using this widget you accept our privacy policy and acknowledge that all copyrights remain to the respective owners.
I give a very modest amount each month*
I join in every day and would be upset if Divine Office went “off the air”.
So, beyond the donation, what other work is available to be done ?
* Very modest, yes, but I am intrigued by how truly modest a community we all must be, judging by the average monthly contribution you mention in your letter at the beginning of the website.
Hello Laurence, in the name of the Divine Office team: I thank you for your contribution, thank you for praying with us and thank you for wanting to help.
The most important think one can do is being an advocate, spread the word about the Liturgy of the Hours and this community and we always can use audio content: recordings of hymns, psalm, canticles or perhaps other parts of the Liturgy of the Hours. You can send this content to [email protected].
We have a page dedicated to the ways in which everyone can help: http://divineoffice.wpengine.com/want-to-help – more details there.
God bless!
Hello Mauro,
Is the server down? there is an error message on the link on my site and on here as well. Also when I tried to re-attach the code it is not letting me do that…. any thoughts..?
Pax et Bonum
I was working on the widget yesterday, you must have accessed in the moment I was moving things around. Please try now and let me know if the error is still there. 🙂
Yesterday (Sept. 7) was such a beautiful office…so full of diversity…new voices…new accents…such clear, prayerful, easy-to-join-in readings. The DO gets better and better as the readers avoid dramatic readings that disturb the flow for us followers. Thank you so much
I copied and pasted the first HTML sample to my Network Solutions Hosted Website (GoldFamilyNetworks.com), but received a “Not Found” error message.
The requested object does not exist on this server. The link you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server has been instructed not to let you have it. Please inform the site administrator of the referring page.
The first sentence of my last post should end with :, not . The second paragraph is a quote of the error message received.
Hello Michael, please verify that the code you pasted isn’t using “nice quotes” instead of the standard quotes. It might be that our text here is using the nice quotes rather then the ASCII characters.
Dear Mauro,
I haven’t had time to verify that the code I pasted wasn’t using “nice quotes” instead of the standard (ASCII) quotation marks. I have resolved the issue to my satisfaction by eliminating the iframe and merely providing a link to the /embed format (DivineOffice.org/embed). Thank you very much for your suggestion and the good work you are doing at DivineOffice.org.
Thank you…Thank you so much. http://www.sacredheartmercedes.org will add the link to the website. We have formation classes teaching Liturgy of the Hours so this is so timely and awesome. I will also embed in my personal website. I will spread the word.
