December 12
Feast
“Know, be sure, my dearest-and-youngest son, that I am the Perfect Ever Virgin Holy Mary, mother of the one great God of truth who gives us life, the inventor and creator of people. the owner and lord of what is around us and what is touching us or very close to us, the owner and lord of the sky, the owner of the earth. I want very much that they build my sacred little house here…” [1]
Today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On December 9, 1531, Juan Diego had a vision of Our Lady in Tepeyac, Mexico. Mary asked him to tell the bishop to build a church at the site of the vision. After the vision was confirmed by a flowering rose bush and a miraculous image on Juan Diego’s cloak, a shrine was built. John Paul II calls the Basilica of Guadalupe the ‘Marian heart of the Americas.’ [2] Our Lady of Guadalupe was declared the patron saint of the Americas in 1945. [3][4]
